Saturday April 1, 2000 marked Alabama Waterfowl Associations (AWA)
first conservation outreach project for the Phillips Wildlife Demonstration Area (WDA).
This project consisted of teaching our KWAC program participants why
we need to place woodduck and bluebird nesting boxes and how this project will benefit
these species. Loss of habitat is of course is the reasons these type projects are so
important. The participants installed 9 woodduck and blue bird nesting boxes and installed
several of the project signs. The participants toured and received detailed information
regarding the technical part of this restoration project. Mike Crawford, the KWAC Program
Director, coordinated this event. North Jackson High School students, under the direction
of Mr. Tim McCoy, performed an outstanding job constructing the nesting boxes from Cypress
lumber donated by TVA.
